Vegetarianism:
How Broccoli and Carrots Can Save the World
How can a vegetarian diet reduce pollution everywhere and improve physique and mental ability? Vegetarianism is proven to be healthier for the body and mind (Huffington Post), but how can it also help the earth? How can vegetarianism help the world in every aspect possible? It can reduce pollution around the world and help the body. Vegetarianism can also sustain people on a healthier lifestyle. People could still get their protein requirements from beans and things of such. Since meat has been proven to give you cancer. But why do we need to be vegetarian?
World pollution is at an all time high, and humans are becoming more unhealthy by the decade. One way we could solve both of these issues would be vegetarianism. If world pollution keeps increasing, and climate change gets about +2 degrees celsius, there could be irreversible changes done to the climate and our atmosphere. This problem needs to be controlled indefinitely as if any point this happens, we could be in danger along with our planet. Already that being vegetarian has been proven to be healthier for the body (Harvard health), it could also be healthier for the earth. There is a ridiculous amount of land used to raise cattle, which themselves alone produce a third of the methane in the atmosphere. Human health and planetary health are very crucial things to our existence and hence affects essentially every human and living thing on this planet. This problem really started to blow up once we started using a profound amount of polluting energy sources. For example, mass farming cows and turning them into genetically modified versions of themselves to suit our needs. But how serious could this actually be?
Global warming is at an all-time high, obesity rates are high, and the Ozone layer is caving in on itself. If all of these continue at the rate they are at, we are dead. If we do not do anything, we are dead. If we do not fix this we are dead, no more humanity, no more life, nothing left. Clean energy sources have been attempted to reduce climate change and make the environment healthier but there are issues with all of the solutions proposed. Hydroelectric power destroys the nearby environment and are massive. Solar energy is relatively inefficient and rather expensive to implement. Wind turbines are huge and also do not produce a lot of power. Climate change agreements have been proposed, but not all countries join in or agree to participate in some way. For example, the U.S. recently backed out of the Paris Accord even though they produce 15% of all CO2 emissions in the world. Although these solutions seemed like good ideas, none planned out as expected.
If the earth keeps going as it is right now, humanity will deteriorate at an insane rate. If we as a whole do not start to get ourselves together and organized to fix these issues, humanity will not last much longer. How does vegetarianism save us? Firstly we could make an entire city self-sufficient, if they all went vegetarian and hydroponics were installed to feed them. Hydroponics are incredibly efficient, dense, and can be stacked vertically. This would be amazing as we would no longer need hundreds on hundreds of acres to grow potatoes but could put them in a few blocks. If hydroponic were installed in cities, it was also stopped the trucking of food across the country, which in itself emits a large amount of Co2.
One of the biggest issues with this would be to actually convince people to go vegetarian. If we have no other choice, people will have to but ideally we would want people to go before it is our last resort. However if people did go vegetarian, it would save the world in every way imaginable. From slowing down global warming and climate change, to helping the Amazon rain-forest, and saving us water, this would just be the best option for us as a whole. A health issue that would come this though, would be some people going anemic due to the lack of iron. However this could be counteracted by the consumption of beans since they give you protein and iron. There aren't really any drawbacks to this plan. This is simply the best option for the planet, and for humans.
Vegetarianism is the solution. We all need to continue surviving on this planet. Thanks to hydroponics, we could make cities self-succinct. With these hydroponics, we could also greatly reduce the co2 emissions into the atmosphere. If we lower our consumption of cow meat we can reduce our chances of developing colon cancer whilst dropping the methane in the atmosphere and while saving us water. This is simply the best option for everyone.
